Configure a pattern on Woolmoot

Before writing, lay the groundwork for your pattern by configuring its settings and general information.

Go to the page

Settings

This is where you configure the settings specific to your pattern.

Counting rules
Enable or disable two stitch counting settings. The first determines whether chain stitches at the beginning of a row are counted or not, and the second whether chain stitches and slip stitches at the end of a row are counted. In practice: if the option is enabled, these stitches are counted normally in the row total; if not, they count as 0. This way, you get a consistent stitch count based on your preference.
Custom stitches
Add your own stitches if you use a very specific, unique stitch, or one that combines multiple stitches. Each custom stitch has a name, an abbreviation, a description (optional), and a stitch count. The name and abbreviation are detected in the editor rows, and their stitch count is added to the total row count. The description is automatically translated into all languages.Tip: if you notice a potential translation error or prefer a specific abbreviation in another language for an existing stitch, you can declare that existing stitch as a custom stitch: custom stitches take priority over default ones. You can then enter your own translations; this step is detailed in step 6.
Usage rights
Easily select one of the three common presets (Strict, Standard, or Open), whose detailed settings you can see just below. You can also check individual settings to create custom usage rights. Your choices directly influence the content of the usage notice in the PDF, which adapts automatically: you get clean legal content without having to worry about writing it yourself.

Informations

The descriptive elements of your pattern. They populate the cover page and the 'materials and abbreviations' page of the PDF.

Pattern language
Select the language in which you write the row instructions and text content (name, notes, descriptions, etc.). It determines how terms and abbreviations are detected: with the wrong language, the editor won't correctly recognize your terms and translation generation will be inaccurate. The selected language is displayed in the sidebar, to the left of the pattern name.
Name
The name you give your pattern, in the pattern's language. Limited to 50 characters, it appears directly on the PDF cover page.
Cover image
This is the image that illustrates your PDF and your pattern, so choose it carefully! It appears on the cover page and in the pattern list in your account. It must be in a square 1:1 format (recommended size: 1200x1200 px or larger), in JPEG, PNG, or WebP format, with transparency supported. Limited to 5 MB (enough to maintain great quality). If you upload a non-square image, it will be cropped around the center. You can edit or delete it at any time using the dedicated buttons.
Hook Sizes
Specify one or more hook sizes used, from the wide range of options available. The selected sizes will be displayed on the 'materials and abbreviations' page of the PDF.
Yarns
Enter the yarns you used, including the brand and weight. For each yarn, specify the colors used. For each color, you can add a hint (useful for highlighting elements of that color in your rows, visible directly in the PDF), the color name (automatically translated into all languages), and the number of skeins used. These elements will be displayed on the 'materials and abbreviations' page of the PDF, automatically translated.
Tools
List all the tools needed to complete your pattern: scissors, stitch markers, wire, etc. These items will be displayed on the 'materials and abbreviations' page of the PDF, automatically translated.
